Though we have some more ‘exciting crisis news’ to report in Libya and Japan, I thought I’d write about something that I’ve been thinking about for a while.
It’s next to Russia and it’s in the EU.
In Latvia, 40,3% of workers receive a salary bellow 285 Euros, 27,3% between 285-428 Euros, and about 20% earn 428-714 Euros.
That is to say that more than 67% of workers earn less than 428 Euro per month.
This month the bill for my friend’s flat, not including TV, phone, electricity, gas and internet was 148 Euros, if you count all together, then it will be about 50 Euros more… let’s say 200.
So in the end 67% of working people are living for less than 228 Euro per month.
Now they are cutting the social budget too, because the European Commission are saying to them that they have to cut the budget by 50 million or so. In general everything has already been cut by about 1/3.
I haven’t even mentioned, that about 87% of workers earn less than 714 Euros.
I dread to think about old people, or sick people, or anybody that needs help.
You're not censoring comments are you Hadders?
No, just haven\’t had many lately due to lack of updates.
yep, the "situation" (as most Latvians say) here is worsening as it appears daily. there's definitely an increase in people going to NGOs to for help. 'tis crazy.
