Not the First Time Bus Prices Rise
Ticket prices for the Bright Orange Bus have increased once again this year.
Prices increase annually to tie in with inflation and rising fuel prices. From September 1st 2008, a single ticket from the bus station to campus on board the number 18 will increase from £1 to £1.10 and a single from Oldfield Park to campus on board the 418 costs £1.95.
In addition to standard tickets, bus passes and journey cards are increasing as follows:
• 10 Journey – from £8 to £8.50
• 1 Week – from £10.50 to £11.30
• 5 Week – from £48 to £51.50
• 8 Week – from £66 to £71
• Term/13 Week – from £82 to £88.50
• 36 Week – from £231 to £249
• 52 Week – from £299 to £320
There will also be a service change. The 10 journey pass, the most popular among Bath students, can no longer be used on the 418 as they are not valid any further than the large Sainsbury’s store.
Many students have already declared their intention to walk from Oldfield Park to the city centre before boarding the number 18 bus. Several students are even planning to avoid the buses entirely and hope to walk up Bathwick Hill.
First, the company who runs the buses, were not available for comment. Impact called First’s customer services phone line was busy for several hours. If you would like to register your opinion with the company, you should call 0845 606 4446 or write to First, Oldmixon Crescent, Weston-Super-Mare, BS24 9AY.

At least you have the option of public transport. I have no alternative to driving my car. My husband and I each drive close to 50 miles a day–and my hidebound employer won't allow me to adjust my schedule to allow for carpooling. If I could ride a bus or train, I would.
